Film serves not only as entertainment but also as a medium of communication that shapes social meanings. One of the recurring themes in films is the role of mothers, given their central position in both family life and Indonesian cultural values. This study analyzes the representation of motherhood in the film Bila Esok Ibu Tiada using Roland Barthes’ semiotic approach with a descriptive qualitative method. Seven selected scenes were examined through three levels of meaning: denotative, connotative, and mythological. The findings reveal six dominant representations of mothers: a selfless figure, a conflict mediator, an understanding individual, one who sacrifices personal interests, a fragile yet resilient character, and a source of love and spiritual support. These representations reinforce the cultural myth of Indonesian mothers as symbols of love, sacrifice, and guardians of family harmony. Thus, the film not only reflects social reality but also functions as an ideological instrument shaping public perceptions of motherhood.
