Abstract

The empowerment of rural communities, particularly women, plays a crucial role in enhancing family welfare through creative economic activities while contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This study focuses on the members of the PKK women’s group in Sentul Barat Hamlet, Tiru Lor Village, Kediri Regency, who demonstrated high enthusiasm for community activities but lacked skills connected to productive economic practices. The objective of this program was to improve the technical skills and creativity of PKK mothers through training in handicraft production, specifically bouquet arrangements made from snacks and kitchen spices. The research adopted a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, emphasizing active involvement of the community in needs assessment, program planning, implementation, and reflection. Data were collected through observation, focus group discussions, and direct practice sessions. The training engaged 13 participants and achieved a 100% completion rate, with all participants successfully producing at least two handicraft products of marketable quality. The program also fostered collaboration between the academic team, local government, and the community, although time constraints limited the exploration of marketing and branding strategies. The findings suggest that PAR-based training effectively enhances women’s skills, stimulates creativity, and opens opportunities for microeconomic empowerment. In conclusion, the initiative demonstrates the potential for community-based handicraft training to strengthen local entrepreneurship, support sustainable economic development, and directly contribute to SDG 5 (gender equality) and SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth).
